MEASURE FIRST
Pool Volume Calculator
Estimate gallons from basic pool geometry. Every input stays visible so the result can be checked, shared with a qualified professional, and replaced by better project information.
ESTIMATED WATER VOLUME
15,990 galGeometry estimate only. Steps, benches, shelves, spas, slopes, freeboard, irregular curves, and actual waterline can change the volume.
Nothing is transmitted or stored. Record the measurements and calculation date with the result.
How to measure and use the estimate
Measure the interior water dimensions rather than the surrounding deck. Use the intended waterline for depth, not the top of coping. For a sloped floor, enter the shallow and deep water depths; the calculator applies an average. Divide an irregular pool into simpler rectangles, ovals, or circles and calculate each portion separately if a single shape would materially overstate the area.
Volume affects several project conversations, but it does not select equipment by itself. Ask the designer or builder to reconcile their stated volume with the hydraulic design, heating expectations, sanitation system, feature demand, and commissioning settings. Keep the accepted figure in the equipment and operating records.
Formula basis
Rectangular area is length × width. Oval area is π × length × width ÷ 4. Round area is π × radius². Area × average depth produces cubic feet, multiplied by 7.48052 gallons per cubic foot.
Pool volume questions
Why use average depth?
A sloped floor contains less water than a pool built entirely to the deep-end depth. This tool uses the arithmetic average of the entered shallow and deep measurements as a practical estimate.
How accurate is the result?
It is a geometry estimate. Irregular shapes, steps, benches, tanning shelves, spas, freeboard, and measurement error can materially change actual volume.
What is the result useful for?
Use it to frame fill-time, equipment, heating, chemical, and operating discussions. Product selection and dosing still require current manufacturer instructions and qualified project review.
Does the tool size a pump or heater?
No. Volume is one input; hydraulics, plumbing, features, climate, operating targets, utilities, and product performance also matter.
Should a builder document pool volume?
Ask for the design volume, calculation basis, final operating volume where available, and any different volume used for equipment or water-care decisions.
